MALAKAND AND SWAT REGION
The Malakand division of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa "North West Frontier Province" of Pakistan covers one third of the total area of the Province. The region is further divided into Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla Districts and Malakand Agency. It's distinctive features make the area a "Tourist's Heaven".
MALAKAND
The
area has a reich history, covering thousands of yers.
Alexander the Great traveled through the region in 327
BC. The famous Gandhara Buddhist Civilization later
flourished in the valleys of Swat and Dir, There are
many stupas and Buddhist settlements in the region.
The Famous Chinese travllers Huein Tsang and Fa Hien
came here for learning and a great Buddhist missionary
Padma Sambhava, belonging to Swat traveled to Tibet
to spread Buddhism.
A forest around Malakand gives a very refreshing view. Malakand is a fertile valley surrounded by hills moderately cold in winter and pleasant in summer. An excellent road extends from the main Malakand Highway to Swat.
